Bonne Fête Nationale! It is Bastille Day, France’s
more-or-less equivalent of our Independence Day. Could there be a better time
to announce the upcoming blogathon, Vive la France!, to be hosted by CMBA members
Lady Eve’s Reel Life and Silver Screen Modes? We think not.

I was supposed to write a post about Jean-Pierre Léaud for another blogathon recently but got in over my head and wasn't able to finish it in time, so could I do that for this blogathon? My blog is Cinematic Scribblings: https://cinematicscribblings.wordpress.com/ Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYes, you may Erin. Jean-Pierre Léaud is a perfect choice. A film center in my area is hosting a program, "Jean-Pierre Léaud at 75" through the end of next month, and I am determined to finally see The Death of Louis XIV (2016).
DeleteThanks! Hope you enjoy the movie (though maybe "enjoy" isn't the best word)!
DeleteI don't have a blog but would YVETTE MIMIEUX count? I read that her father was French. Also there are certainly a lot of movies set in Paris, one being APRIL IN PARIS with DORIS DAY. Classic TV Fan
ReplyDeleteYes, there are many ways to approach this subject. As for Yvette Mimieux, her dad was French and her mom was Mexican. I think a review of her film, Picasso Summer (1969), would be the best option. Not only does the half-French actress star in it but much of the film is set in France - plus her co-star is the wonderful Albert Finney.
DeleteI was wondering if you would consider a blog post about the film Merci pour le chocolat. It's a French/Swiss production, and the film's star is Isabelle Huppert. I was thinking of writing about it as a neo-noir, with some brief discussion of the novel it is based on: The Chocolate Cobweb, by Charlotte Armstrong. Would this film work for the blogathon you have planned?
ReplyDeleteYes. Chabrol and Huppert are certainly "classic French" enough for this blogathon!
DeleteThanks, Lady Eve!
DeleteHi, can I do "Bondu Saved From Drowning" for The Stop Button (www.thestopbutton.com)?
ReplyDeleteIt is yours, Andrew, thanks for joining in
DeleteHas anyone selected Cornered, 1945? If not, I would like to contribute something on this noir to the blogathon.
ReplyDeleteWe'll put you down for Cornered, Paddy. Thanks!
DeleteI am very much looking forward to your entry, Paddy. I will be writing about Cornered for the World War II Blogathon in September!
DeleteMarianne, this will be fun. My entry for WW2 is Corvette K-225. We're keeping busy.
DeleteCan I please write about five French classic films that I think all film fans should watch? maddy
ReplyDeleteHi Maddy,
DeleteI think that would be fine as long as you don't spend a lot of time on films that are already being covered by others. What would the title of your piece be? Thanks for joining in!
Five French Classics You Should See. I'm not going to be writing full reviews/articles on the films I'm selecting. Will just write a bit about each and why I think that particular film should be seen by film fans. Looking forward to this blogathon!
